Instructions as of 6/8/2017, subject to change by the financial institution.

To make it easy for you, at the very bottom of this email are the instructions on how to set up a recurring automatic transfer from your main checking account to another financial institution (it's smartest to have your separate savings account not at the same bank as your checking account) for the largest banks in the US, including:

  • Chase
  • Bank of America
  • US Bank
  • Citi Bank
  • TCF
  • Wells Fargo
  • Capital One
  • Ally

Don't worry if your bank isn't listed. Since bank processes are typically very similar, just look at the instructions for Chase bank and you'll get an idea of what you need to do.

TCF (Instructions as of 6/8/2017)

Currently, TCF Bank only allows for transfers to other banking institutions via wire transfer or set up recurring transfer as a “bill” in automatic bill payments. By year end they will have bank to bank transfer capability.

Login to your account at TCF: https://www.tcfbank.com

Wire Transfer:

  1. To send a wire transfer, please visit a TCF Bank location. Wire instructions through email or fax will not be accepted because proper identification is required and your signature must be witnessed by a representative of the bank.  There is a fee for sending a wire transfer. For details, please refer to your Deposit Account Services and Prices Schedule, or call 1-800-TCF-BANK (823-2265).

 Domestic wire transfers:
Receiving Bank ABA Number and Name
Beneficiary Name, Account Number and Address

International wire transfers:
Beneficiary Name, Account Number and Address
Receiving Bank Name, City, County and SWIFT Code
Other Country-Specific Information:

*TCF does not have a SWIFT code because TCF is not an international bank. The sending bank will usually have a correspondent relationship with a bank in the United States who then routes the funds to TCF.

Setting up your outside checking account as a monthly bill:

1. Enroll in TCF online Banking. To add Online Bill Payment to your existing TCF online banking service:

  •  Log in to Online Banking
  • Select Bill Payment Tab
  • Select Enroll

2. Set up your outside savings account as a monthly eBill. Once you have an eBill set up for a payee (in this case, your outside account savings), it typically takes 1-2 “billing cycles” for you to begin receiving your “bill” online.
